Example:
1) Simplify 6:20
6 and 20 both divide by 2 so the simplified ratio is 3:10
2) Share $1000 in the ratio of 2:3
2 + 3 = 5 parts
1000 ÷ 5 = $200 (1 part)
2:3 = 2 x 200 : 3 x 200
= $400 : $600
3) The ratio of boys to girls in 10 ABC is 3 : 5. If there are 15 girls, how many boys are in the class and how many students in total?
15 ÷ 5 = 3
3 x 3 = 9
There are 9 boys and a total of 24 students.
